Most people have a need to work in order to earn a living and support themselves and their families. Though their occupations may not be their dream jobs, they likely understand that having any sort of income could help their personal situations. Reports indicated that workers at a luxury resort were subjected to numerous employment violations that negatively impacted their wages. As a result, a class action lawsuit has been filed against the resort on behalf of an undisclosed number of workers.
One worker stated that he and other employees are not given their rest breaks or meal breaks, and they are not properly compensated for missing those breaks as employers reportedly told workers to doctor time sheets to make it look like they took the breaks. The workers have also missed out on overtime pay as well as reimbursement for purchasing work-related tools needed to carry out their duties. Furthermore, workers also miss out on compensation related to travel time as the resort requires workers to get to work early and park off site.
Proper compensation is often the reward for working hard, but as this case shows, many employees could carry out their duties to the best of their abilities and still miss out on necessary pay.
