Harvey Weinstein lawsuit settlement announced in New York

If you have followed the Harvey Weinstein lawsuits, then you may be interested in knowing that an agreement has been made. Two cases are to be settled for close to $19 million.

The attorneys speaking for six of the women involved in those cases stated that the proposal wasn’t good enough, because the 68-year-old man wouldn’t have to pay out of his own accounts or accept responsibility for his actions. A judge will need to determine if the lawsuits can be settled this way. If so, the settlement will resolve a lawsuit that was filed in 2018 against him, his brother and his production company in 2018.

The class-action lawsuit brought by nine women in 2017 would also be settled. Interestingly, the settlement would release the victims from nondisclosure agreements, so that they could speak out against the man in public. It’s believed that their attorneys will be objecting to the proposed settlement in court since it is, they claim, “deeply unfair.”

It should be noted that Weinstein was found guilty of sexually assaulting a former production assistant as well as raping a former actress he was working with. He received a 23-year sentence for those crimes.

At this time, Weinstein has been accused of sexually harassing and assaulting over 100 women. He faces additional charges in Los Angeles for some of those accusations.

Sexual misconduct, whether it’s harassment or worse, has no place in the workplace. You should know your rights and be aware that you have a right to work in a safe environment. If you are struggling with harassment or other issues, you need to reach out for support.
